The Scioto Foundation has announced the establishment of the Kevin Green Memorial Scholarship Fund, created by a long-time friend, Jeff Chaffin.

To be eligible for the Green Scholarship, a student must be a graduate of Wheelersburg High School. Preference will be given to students majoring in technical or trade studies.

A four-member selection committee will make annual scholarship selections. It will be comprised of a member of the Chaffin family and the Wheelersburg High School principal, a guidance counselor and a teacher. In the event that WHS ceases to exist, scholarship applicants must reside in Porter Township.

Green worked for and was the owner of Lawn Lords and worked for the State of Ohio, providing in-home accessibility improvements for the visually impaired. He was also a talented plumber who never failed to remind his clients and friends to “winterize” their outside plumbing fixtures before the first frost.

According to his friends, Green’s Facebook posts were considered ‘must read’ for their humor and entertainment value. Nearly everyone in the community was positively impacted by Green at some level.

Known as “The Mayor of Sheldon Cartro Road,” Green was often seen with his trusted German Shepherd sidekick, Karma, riding around town in the back of his white pickup truck. Green owned a farm and loved animals, especially his dogs. He was a 1974 graduate of Wheelersburg High School and he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1978. His fondness and support for Wheelersburg and its sports teams never wavered.
