The Scioto Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of a new scholarship fund, the Michael D. Pinson Memorial Scholarship Fund, established by his son, Jeffrey D. Pinson and his wife Lorenda in memory of his father.
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a graduating senior from Minford High School, have participated in 4 – H and maintained a 3.00 point grade point average. In addition, the student must complete a short essay.
Michael David Pinson of Minford passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at the age of 69. Born May 15, 1946 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Orville and Olive Bernice Wessel Pinson, he was a 1964 graduate of Minford High School and was retired from Shawnee State University as a Systems Network Manager. He was a 4-H Horse Advisor for more than 30 years and past President of Minford Little League and Minford Athletic Boosters.
“Establishing this scholarship in Mike’s name not only allows us to continue to honor his name and memory, but to continue the legacy he left us: helping the youth of Scioto County. We wanted to honor his legacy and this scholarship allows us to do that,” said Lorenda Pinson.
“Through his 25+ years as a 4-H advisor and numerous other associations, Mike gave freely of himself for the youth of Scioto County, touching many lives in the process. Via this scholarship, Mike will continue to have an impact on the lives and future of the youth of Minford and Scioto County,” she concluded.
Pinson and his wife Jill (Allen) Pinson were the parents of two sons, David (Amy) Pinson of Frankfort and Jeff (Lorenda) Pinson of Minford. They had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
