Mike Roth Memorial Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Graduating Senior from Wheelersburg High School, Wheelersburg, Ohio

  • Preference for those who participate in 4-H

  • GPA 2.5 or higher

The Scioto Foundation announces the creation of the new Mike Roth Scholarship Fund
established by David Roth in memory of his son.

To be eligible for the Mike Roth Scholarship, a student must be a graduate of Wheelersburg High School and have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0. Preference will be given to students who have participated in 4 - H programs.

Born in 1962 in Portsmouth, Roth was the son of David Albert and Helen Kathryn Delabar Roth.  He died on May 27, 1994 in Maloneton, Kentucky at age 32.

Roth was a truck driver for Portsmouth Block Company. He was a 1970 graduate of
Wheelersburg High School and the Scioto County Joint Vocational School and a member of St. Peter’s In Chains Catholic Church.

Roth was the father of two sons, Carl Dustin Roth and Joseph Michael Roth, and one daughter, Amanda Nicole Roth.

“At the time of Mike’s death, a joint scholarship was established in both his name and that of the Silver Spurs 4 - H Club. That club no longer exists,” said his sister Kathryn Pyles, explaining why the fund has now been set up at the Scioto Foundation.

"Mike was very active with horses and 4 - H horse clubs,” Pyles continued. “He was a very hard worker and always wished that he had gone on to higher education.”

Additions to the Mike Roth Memorial Scholarship Fund may be made by friends, family and supporters in the form of gifts of cash, securities or property at any time.  Further information about the Roth Scholarship Fund or other planned giving opportunities may be obtained by contacting Kim Cutlip or Patty Tennant at the Scioto Foundation office, (740) 354-4612 or by visiting the SF website at www.sciotofoundation.org
