Scioto County Medical Society Scholarship Fund

The Scioto County Medical Society scholarship supports local students aspiring to become medical doctors. The award program began in 1971 with the creation of the Dr. Alden B. Oakes Scholarship Fund, honoring the first orthopedic surgeon in our area. A second scholarship fund was added in 1997 to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Spencer K. Miller, who practiced family medicine in Sciotoville.

In 2002, the  Scioto County Medical Society moved the fund to Scioto Foundation and named it the Scioto County Medical Society Scholarship Fund.

Former Executive Secretary for the Society, Grace Martin stated in the original press release that the goal of the Scioto County Medical Society is to grow the endowment fund so it can provide large amounts and more medical scholarships.
