Formerly known as the Bettie L. Diehl Scholarship Fund, this scholarship was established in 1993 in memory of Bettie Diehl who sadly passed in the early 1990’s. After her husband passed in 2012, the fund was renamed the Richard L. & Bettie L. Diehl Scholarship Fund.
Mrs. Diehl was a native of Portsmouth, Ohio. She was educated in Portsmouth and an active member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. In 1948 she married her sweetheart, Richard “Dick” Diehl and they were blessed with five children.
Mr. Diehl graduated from Central Catholic High School and Xavier University and then worked for OSCO Industries where he was President. Mr. Diehl was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he was a Reader and a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also a former board member of the Scioto County Area Foundation, a former board member of Bank One, and active in the United Way Foundation, as well as a founding member of the Notre Dame High School Development Fund.
