	Katheryn Slack Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarship Criteria: Graduate of East Community School, Sciotoville, Ohio Majoring in Nursing As a tribute to Kay Slack, her friends created the Kathryn Slack Memorial Scholarship Fund. This group of good friends felt that Kay would be very pleased to assist someone in obtaining a nursing degree in our area because of her love of working and volunteering in hospitals. The scholarship will assist graduates from East Community school planning to attend an accredited school of nursing. While Kay was working in Columbus, Ohio, at Riverside Hospital, she developed Crohn's Disease. She had a severe case which required numerous surgeries and hospitalizations during the next 30 plus years. Although she was extremely ill times, she never ceased to care and show concern for others. Kay had a caring attitude, and throughout the course of her illness, she did volunteer work at Southern Ohio Medical Center and was active in her church. She cared for numerous nieces and nephews, as well as children of friends and neighbors while they were growing up. She had much patience with children and they cared very much for Kay. Pat Stanley, Kay’s long-time friend, stated, “Caring is one of those attributes that is extremely important in the field of nursing. I have always said that if we could take an ounce of Kay's caring and inject it into our nursing students, we would be able to enhance their practice by far. Scholarship Criteria:
